Our Story

My name is Richard, founder of Royally Bees.

After 15 years serving in the Royal Marines, I began a new chapter of my life in the South East of England in Kent, close to the family who mean so much to me. After a year of settling into civilian life, I started looking for a way to build something of my own, something that reflected my values and gave me a new sense of purpose.

The idea for Royally Bees began when I met a wonderful woman with a real passion for healthy living. During one of our conversations, she introduced me to beeswax and explained why she preferred it to many conventional candle waxes. It opened my eyes to a more natural approach to something we bring into our homes every day.

For me, it was a no-brainer. If I was going to create a product, I wanted to use natural materials and offer an alternative to conventional candles.

The name Royally Bees carries a personal meaning. It pays tribute to my years in the Royal Marines, an important part of my life that helped shape the person I am today, while bringing together my passion for beeswax and the natural world. It's a name that connects where I've come from with the new journey I'm building.

After countless long days and late nights learning, experimenting and refining my craft, Royally Bees began to take shape.

Every candle is hand-poured using pure beeswax, paired with a glass jar, a bamboo lid and a hemp wick. I've also chosen recycled packaging and reused wrapping wherever possible, because I believe that being thoughtful about what goes into a product should extend to how it's packaged and presented.

My aim is simple: to offer a natural alternative to conventional candles, creating something beautiful for the home and thoughtful enough to give as a gift.

Each candle in the collection has its own story, inspired by the landscapes I've experienced throughout my life. From navigating the rolling moorlands of Dartmoor to patrolling across the snow and ice of northern Norway beneath the Northern Lights, and experiencing the scorching heat and dramatic rock faces of Oman's deserts, and rural lands of Afganistan. These places have left lasting impressions on me.

Those memories are now finding a new purpose through the candles I create. Every name represents a connection to a place, an experience or a feeling that has stayed with me long after leaving it behind.

Royally Bees is more than a business to me. It's an opportunity to build something meaningful, embrace a more natural way of living and share a little of my journey with others. I'm proud of how far I've come, and I'm always looking for ways to improve my products and make more considered choices.

Finally, I'd like to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has supported, encouraged and believed in me along the way. Starting something new after leaving military life hasn't always been easy, and every bit of support means more than you know.
